Locations

You will be fighting alongside more allies in large scale battles giving the game quite the epic scope, especially as you fight among some massive locations and cities like Minas Ithil, as well as a much more diverse collection of regions each with their own tribes. The culture of the orc tribe in control of a particular region will affect how that area looks and how the orcs who belong to that tribe look themselves.

 Minas Ithil

The Region known as Minas Ithil (and eventually known as Minas Morgul 1) is the first explorable region in Shadow of War.
Minas Ithil is the last human bastion defending Gondor from the hordes of Orcs that mass in Mordor under Sauron's command, and although they have beaten back the tides before - all that changes with the arrival of the Nazgul.

The region is comprised of a small forested road with an outpost leading to the large bridge where the city itself lies - divided into a lower and upper section, as well as the main citadel.

During Act 1, most Orc Captains are fairly low level, while the fortress is defended by friendly men of Gondor. However, after returning to Minas Morgul in Act 2, new incoming Captains will increase in level, and the fortress defended by the Nazgul cannot be assaulted until the end of Act 3.

Cirith Ungol

The Region known as Cirith Ungol is the second explorable region in Shadow of War. Cirith Ungol is home to a large cavernous and rocky region with a fortress perched on the outer cliffs, flanked by several Outposts that lie in and out of the tunnels below - and where Shelob the Spider makes her home.

The region is comprised of many short tunnels leading to broad open ruins where Orcs have formed Outposts, and the region is also plagued by Ghuls and Spiders who make their home in the nests all around these areas. In the canon lore, Cirith Ungol was name to both the region of the Morgul Pass, which connected the lands of the west to Mordor, but also the tower guarding the region.(2 3)

Nurnen

The Region known as Nurnen is the third explorable region in Shadow of War. Nurnen, much like Nurn from Shadow of Mordor, is a more lush and jungle-inspired island than the rest of Mordor, and is home to more varied wildlife, and dense forests that have grown to surround the various Outposts and the lone Fortress out by the coast. In the canon lore, the water in the Sea of Nurnen is not suitable for drinking, but is fed by waters that are. (4)

The region is comprised of several valleys and rocky cliff paths, as well a dense forest full of Caragors and Graugs where the Spirit of Carnan Dwells, and the remaining ruins have been converted to Outposts that the Orcs now use.

Seregost

The Region known as Seregost is an explorable region after conquering Nurnen in Shadow of War. Seregost is a snowy region and much tougher than many of the other places in Mordor, owning to the more dangerous enemies, beasts, and bigger Outposts flanked by a large central fortress in the middle. The region of Seregost is considered non-canonical as it does not appear in any works of Tolkien.

The region is comprised of steep mountain passes, often with sheer drops or curving roads, and includes several icy passages and a large frozen lake, nearby where many Icy Graug can be found along with Caragors.

Gorgoroth

The Region known as Gorgoroth is an explorable region after conquering Nurnen in Shadow of War. Gorgoroth is a volcanic region near the seat of Sauron's Power at Baradur. It is one of the toughest regions in Mordor, surrounded by Sauron's finest troops. In the canon lore, Boromir describes the land of Mordor as being a "noxious fume." It is believed by some that Boromir is describing the Plateau of Gorgoroth. It is in this area that both Mount Doom and the fortress of Barad-dûr are located.

The region is comprised of volcanic plains, rocky ruins, and the slopes of Mount Doom with cavernous passages connecting the realms. It is also home to some terrifying Drakes, Flame Graugs, and more.
